Eilat Israel

Eilat is Israel’s southernmost city, a busy port and popular resort at the northern tip of the Red Sea on the Gulf of Aqaba. Known for its beaches, coral reefs, nightlife and surrounding desert scenery, it attracts both domestic and international visitors. Large-scale settlement of Eilat began in 1955, when Jewish families from Morocco were encouraged to move there. Today, with a population of around 49,700, Eilat forms part of the Southern Negev Desert at the southern end of the Arava Valley. It borders the Egyptian village of Taba to the south and faces the Jordanian port city of Aqaba to the east, with views across the gulf to Saudi Arabia to the south‑east. Eilat has an arid desert climate with very low humidity, softened slightly by the warm sea. Summer temperatures often rise above 40 °C, and winter temperatures are typically around 21 °C, while sea temperatures range from about 20 to 26 °C. The city enjoys roughly 360 days of sunshine each year.
