Kamøyvær Norway

Kamøyvær is a small fishing village in Nordkapp Municipality, Troms og Finnmark, in the far north of Norway. It sits along the Kamøyfjorden on the eastern side of the island of Magerøya, about 10 kilometres northwest of the town of Honningsvåg, at the end of a cul‑de‑sac road (Norwegian County Road 172), which joins the European route E69 a couple of kilometres to the south on the main road to the North Cape. Sheltered from the open sea by the islands of Lille Kamøya and Store Kamøya – with the sound between the village and Store Kamøya known as the Østersundet – Kamøyvær has around 70 residents. Today there are no formal ethnic distinctions, but most locals are descended from coastal Sámi, Kven and Norwegian families, and in recent years seasonal workers from the Baltic states have also formed part of the local workforce. In the centre of the village you’ll find Arran, a small, family‑run hotel and guesthouse owned by a Sámi family, spread across three blue‑painted buildings by the harbour. The village is also home to Gallery East of the Sun, an art gallery on the top floor of a house in the centre, showing and selling the work of German‑born artist Eva Schmutterer, who has made Kamøyvær her home.
