Sarria, Spain

Sarria Spain

Sarria is a town and municipality in the province of Lugo in north‑west Spain, within the autonomous community of Galicia. With around 13,700 inhabitants, it is the most populous town on the French Way in Galicia. Sarria is the main town in the local area and the most popular starting point for the Camino de Santiago, as the distance from here to Santiago allows pilgrims to complete the minimum number of kilometres needed to receive the Compostela certificate. King Alfonso IX of León died in Sarria in 1230 while on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
